Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG is an extensively studied probiotic strain with human origins. It has been demonstrated to resist gastric acidity, adhere to gut walls, and regulate microflora. Research indicates that its supplementation supports GI colonization and function in children, plus immune health in day care centers. Pregnant women who take it may facilitate healthy gut colonization in infants, and benefit nutrient metabolism during gestation. Scientists found that infants of moms who consumed it prenatally showed increased Bifidobacterial diversity. L. rhamnosus GG is known to enhance bowel motility, and improve abdominal comfort and relief from occasional diarrhea.
It also promotes cytokine balance in the GI tract at the level of gene expression, as well as overall immunomodulatory support. In a double-blind, crossover study, L. rhamnosus GG supplementation moderated the neutrophil and monocyte immune response in dairy-challenged, milk-sensitive subjects, while promoting immune function in non-sensitive subjects. In another study, L. rhamnosus GG promoted healthy gene expression to support white blood cell (WBC) function. Elderly subjects supplemented for 28 days showed 95 differentially expressed genes related to cellular movement, cell-to-cell signaling, and cytokine response.*• Offers 25 billion CFU of one of the most characterized and clinically-studied probiotic strains on the market
