Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a vital component in bodily tissues, and is particularly abundant in skin and synovial fluid. Yet, its concentration decreases with age. Conventional forms of HA are often too large to be absorbed by the intestines. HyaMax® sodium hyaluronate, produced through fermentation, is a low molecular weight form of HA. A study conducted on animals showed that orally administered HyaMax® was incorporated into joints, connective tissues, and skin, especially cartilaginous joints. HA's roles include holding water in extracellular tissue matrices, aiding cell-to-cell communication, and providing hydration, nutrients, and waste and toxin removal. 

It also appears to support the skin by promoting healthy turnover and renewal of keratinocytes. For joints, HA is especially supportive of healthy lubrication and shock absorption.
