Strontium is of proven value in the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis and is available on NHS prescription for this purpose. The problem with the NHS prescribable version is that it is made up with aspartame - a toxic sweetener. Indeed, this preparation has been associted with a risk of thromboembolism - most likely that is an effect of aspartame, which has been linked to such. There is no biologically plausible mechanism by which strontium could cause osteoporosis.
